Children & young people
Our Alternative provision process
How we work.
We start by listening. Every young person who comes to Be Creative has a different story, with different strengths, different challenges and different experiences of education. Rather than fitting children into a programme, we build support around the individual.
Our approach combines creative learning, therapeutic practice and family guidance to help young people re-engage with learning, develop confidence and find their own voice.

Our approach
Trauma-informed. Neurodivergent-affirming. Never rushed.
Six principles shape every session, every space, and every conversation we have with a family.
Safety first, always
Before art, before learning, before anything — a young person must feel safe. We design every space and session around that.
Never rushed
Healing and growth happen on their own timeline. We don’t impose ours. Some young people sit for weeks before they pick up a brush. That’s fine.
Creativity as regulation
Clay, paint, mark-making — these are not just outputs. They’re how a dysregulated nervous system finds its way back to calm.
Neurodivergent-affirming
We don’t treat autism, ADHD or PDA as something to fix. We treat them as ways of being that need understanding, not management.
Held by relationships
Small group sizes, consistent practitioners, the same faces week after week. Trust is built in repetition.
Parents as partners
You know your child better than we ever will. We listen first, then offer what we can — guidance, reports, advocacy, a steady hand.
How it works in practice
What every young person experiences when they come to us.
A space where young people feel seen and understood
Many of the students who come to Be Creative have spent years feeling misunderstood within traditional education. Our environment is built around listening first, understanding the young person, their experiences and how they learn best. By creating a calm, supportive space where there is no pressure to fit a mould, students begin to feel safe enough to re-engage with learning and express who they are.
Helping students find their voice
Creativity allows young people to communicate in ways that traditional classrooms often do not allow. Through sculpture, art, music, digital media and hands-on making, students are able to explore ideas, express emotions and develop confidence in their own voice. As students gain confidence in their abilities, many begin to feel more comfortable sharing their thoughts, ideas and ambitions for the future.
Learning at their own pace
Every young person learns differently. At Be Creative we allow students to work at their own pace and explore areas that genuinely interest them. Students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, helping shape the direction of their projects and the skills they develop. This flexible approach helps rebuild a positive relationship with learning and reduces the pressure many students have previously experienced.
Building resilience and self-regulation
Alongside creative development, we focus on helping young people build resilience and develop the skills needed to manage challenges. Through a supportive environment, consistent guidance and opportunities for independence, students gradually develop greater self-regulation, confidence and belief in their ability to navigate the world around them.
